Now that the spring football season is over, we're going to be looking at more stories in the Big11Ten as a whole, and also then national college football scene. We'll still bring you Penn State news as it happens, but hey, the summer is a slow time for CFB news, so let's see what's happening around the country. Click the link to read on.
Leading things off in Big11Ten news, it's been a rough 12 months for Indiana's Kellen Lewis, and now his career at IU is over as he's been dismissed from the team for undisclosed reasons. That's quite a fall for someone who showed great promise in his freshman season. -SI.com-
Continuing the great news around the Big11Ten, two Iowa players, including Kirk Ferentz's son, pleaded guilty to public intoxication. The players were suspended for the spring, but the article doesn't mention if the suspensions will carry over to the regular season. Our guess is that if they do, they'll be until the Hawkeyes' first meaningful game. That's usually how we handle things. -Iowa Press-Citizen-
The final Big11Ten item is this piece from SI about Terrelle Pryor and the progress he made this spring. We'd like to make fun of this, but if the dude turns into a QB who is even a decent passer, he's going to be scary.
Rivals had a panel of writers give their probable #1 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Perhaps they should have discussed their answers first, and then they would've realized that this idea was completely pointless. Maybe Skip Bayless can jump in and tell them they're all wrong -Rivals-
In his spring football wrap-up, CBS writer and resident jackass Dennis Dodd rips college football fans for thinking that they learn anything from watching spring games:
Note to college football fanatics: The rules of the spring haven't changed. You don't know enough to know enough when watching spring practice.
Here's our quote from our Blue-White Roundtable about the Penn State spring game:
We won't lie, we learned very little about the team overall from attending the Blue White game.
This will come as a shock to Dodd, but not all fans are idiots. He does have a link so you can leave him your opinion, so we suggest that you do.
In contrast to Dodd, SI.com's Cory McCartney did learn something from spring football, and he lists the nation's winners and losers from the spring. Check out who's #4 on the losers list. We don't disagree. -SI.com-
Apparently, it's not too early to be making bowl projections for the upcoming season. If PSU ends up playing Virginia Tech in the Orangle Bowl, wake us up when it's over. -CFN-
If you're a real diehard college football fan, you can even check out the non-BCS bowl projections, just in case you were really excited to see who might be matched up in the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. That is always a classic. -Overkill-
Fox Sports says the popularity of the wildcat in the NFL will help Tim Tebow's draft stock. We would've thought the fact that Tebow is the only player in the history of college football to do charity work would've helped his cause, but apparently not. -FoxSports-
And finally we have some contrasting opinions on the Congressional hearing regarding the BCS last week. Andy Staples of SI.com approves of the hearing and suggests it's a step in the right direction. Chris Dufresne of the LA Times, on the other hand, stated that Congress should stay out of college football -- then proceded to get on with his LA mentality and make fun of anyone with an opinion different than his own. In a related story, no one in LA really cares about Chris Dufresne or college football.
