The Links

Sorry for another extended delay, but summer's a slow time for in the world of CFB.  We've been discussing some ideas and we'll start writing more often now that we're getting into July.  In addition to the links and tailgating posts we've been doing, starting this Friday we're going to do a preview of one of the BCS conferences each week.  First up is the ACC, our favorite whipping boy.  As for the Big11Ten, we'll be going through that in a team-by-team fashion in August.  We'll have some other goodies to throw in along the way, including a big-time review of NCAA Football '10.  Now onto the links.

We lead off this week with a nice story about Navorro Bowman by Adam Rittenberg.  We've taken our fair share of shots at Bowman -and deservedly so- but everyone on the team seems to be behind him and we hope he has a great season.

Rittenberg also has the Big11Ten recruiting scorecard.  In case you haven't been following along, Penn State's been having a very solid recruiting year so far, as they've signed four players from the ESPNU 150.

The PSU linebackers have been ranked the #2 unit in the nation by SportingNews.  The real surprise on that rankings list is Illinois' D-line being ranked #5.  Surely there are more deserving schools out there.  We'll believe that the Illini can actually play defense when we see it.

Phil Steele has ranked Penn State at #5 in his Top 40.  If that link doesn't work (Steele annoyingly disables each preview once the next one is up), click here to read the preview.

The always hatable Dennis Dodd gives his thoughts on how the Big11Ten will shake out this year.  To highlight his idiocy, he points out how he's not convinced that Terrelle Pryor is going to make the leap this season, yet he picks Ohio State anyway over a team with a more mature and experienced QB.  He also places a lot of emphasis on the Ohio State's matchup with USC, which, while it will be telling, it has nothing to do with the Big11Ten title, which is what his article is about.  The de-facto conference title game is on November 7th in Happy Valley.

We got sucked into this scheduling story, only to find out it was about the women's volleyball team.  Just cruel.

Joe gave a butt-load of money to Mt. Nittany Medical Center.

If you haven't seen this already, get ready to have a laugh, at Iowa's expense no less.  One of their O-lineman got a DUI for riding a moped.  Cue the "there's really nothing to do in Iowa" jokes.

Rivals wonders who the 72nd best player in the country is.  We've been wondering the same thing all summer.

Finally, CollegeFootballNews takes a look at candidates for the 5th best team in the land, the most underrated and overrated teams and some BCS national title sleepers.  Look who shows up on the sleepers list.  Not sure whether that's a good thing or not.  Usually teams identified as sleepers end up sucking.  Oh well, at least they have Va Tech on the overrated list.

That's it for now.  Come back friday for the ACC Preview.
