Penn State News Roundup

After a couple weeks talking about other conferences and video games, it's time for some actual Penn State news!  Click "Read More" to check out the links.

We start things off on a sour note, as wide receiver James McDonald has been dismissed from the team after a DUI.  From an on-the-field standpoint, this shouldn't hurt the team at all.  McDonald had all of five receptions last year.  McDonald was suspended in 2007, so its not surprising that DUI + repeat offense = off the team.

Fellow Bloguin blogger Brian, from In The Bleachers, did a podcast with David Jones from the Harrisburg Patriot-News and talked some Big11Ten football.  Give it a listen.

At PennLive, Bob Flounders is counting down the Top 10 Classic Joe Paterno Moments.  A lot of people hate Top 5/10 lists, and we have no idea why.  We love them, so we think this is pretty cool.  Make sure to check out the picture of Joe and Bear Bryant.  Hard to imagine Joe as a young pup.

Jeff Rice of the CDT points out the huge crop of young players will be broken in to skill positions this year, and the glaring lack of veteran help to guide them.

Maybe this is just homerism talking, but it seems like PSU isn't getting a lot of preseason love from anyone in the media not named Phil Steele.  But Dave Curtis of the Sporting News lists the Lions as one of the six teams with the best shot to run the table this year.  The schedule helps, of course, but hey, undefeated is undefeated.

The Post-Gazette's Ron Musselman writes that co-captain Sean Lee is itching to get back on the field:

"I can't wait to be playing football again, smelling the grass in August, putting the pads on, getting the little nicks on your nose from hitting, busting your fingers a little bit," he said. "I just am ready to go through it again."

That's the type of thing you want to hear from guys on your favorite team.

Musselman also has a nice column on freshman QB Kevin Newsome.  With all due respect to Kevin, hopefully we only see him in mop-up duty this year.  But as Musselman notes at the bottom of the column, next year's QB battle should be extremely interesting.

In this piece in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daryll Clark says that PSU's schedule this season is not soft.  Is that exactly what he should say?  Yes.  Does he know that it's BS?  Also yes.  Frankly the comments are way better than the actual article.  What the hell is in the water in Philly?  About 3/4 of the comments are insane, including the one calling for Temple to upset the Lions.

And since we started on a sour note, we'll end with the story that has us most fired up about the season.  Apparently Daryll Clark is attending the Elite 11 quarterback camp in California this week, and the reports on DC are looking good.  E!SPN's Bruce Feldman had this to say about the QB's physique:

"HUGE. He's a rocked-up 240 and bigger than most starting middle linebackers. In fact, I had the discussion with someone about whether Clark is the most muscled-up quarterback we've ever seen."

If Clark gets into the open with the ball this season, Big11Ten corners and safeties might want to brace for impact.

The SEC preview was slated for this Friday, but we're sort of swamped with non-blog stuff this week, so we're going to do it next week.  Instead, we're going to give you a first look at a new series of posts we'll be doing here.  We hope you enjoy it.  Check back later in the week for details.

It's not so simply to do a very good written essay, preferably if you are engaged. I recommend you to notice buy essays and to be devoid from scruple that your work will be done by paper writing service
